BP, the Gulf, and the Politics of Disaster

olIt has been almost 2 months since the BP oil spill started has any one noticed the differences between this Gulf disaster and hurricane Katrina? Then we had an unpopular Republican president who had little if any control over what was or was not done to minimize the damage without interfering with the prerogatives of the Governors of Louisiana and Mississippi. As a result, after the Katrina hit, we got this:

Seven Years later, it takes two months fro the Governor of Louisiana to get even conditional approval on an eco friendly option for containing and cleaning up the oil, which has or will eventually reach beaches in other states, not to mention the money lost by shrimpers and others who depend on the Gulf waters for income. is this the Federal government trying to be cautious and not over intrusive or does it have something to do with the Governors of Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida not being of the party that controls the White House and Congress? I leave it to you dear readers to decide. Don't be surprised though if this song becomes an anthem along the Gulf Coast and other places between now and November. Questions? Comments? Angry Exhortations? Any one.
